Re: Southwest trip to AZ and NM

Around Silver City for IR and recreation:
  - A lot of 'Billy the Kid' stuff. I avoided it.
  - Some old spanish grave yards.
  - A small 'artist town' about 5 miles outside the city, heading towards...
  - Gila Cliff dwellings.
  - A little bit north, the town of Mongola. A hairy drive if you're not
used to backing up on a 1 lane cliff side road to let larger vehicles
buy, but a nice place. A 'rehabilitated' and occupied ghost town.
For a nice walk, check out the catwalk, which is on the way. After
descending from Mongola (spelling), watch out for speed traps
    returning to Silver City.
  - South of Silver City, there is the 'City Of Rocks', which looks a lot
    like it sounds.
  - There used to be some hot springs about 10 miles southeast of the city,
but I believe that the land has been privately purchased.
  - The entire Gila National Forest, if you are into backpacking or camping.
  - Photo services in this town suck. Bring everything that you will need.
If you shoot E6 in addition to IR, process it elsewhere.
  - Drink a lot of water! The heat and elevation (5000 ft) are easy to
get used to as long as you keep drinking.
  - I would definitely take the windy road through Leopold wilderness,
when heading east towards the highway that leads to T or C. Much
more scenic than the slightly quicker route through Las Cruces,
although I hear the Las Cruces is a pretty happening town.
  - The Silver City Dept of Commerce has a couple of fliers that list
most of these items, except for the old Spanish graveyards, and
    the hot springs.
  - If you are into pinhole, you are only about a 30 minute drive from
The Pinhole Resource. I did nothing but IR Pinhole while I was in
    the area.

Have a fun trip!
