to people using an Orange filter. Can people elaborate on their
results with either a Yellow or orange filter with EIR.
Plus does anyone have any pictures posted on the web that are EIR. I
have seen alot of HIE and even some UV, but not any EIR."
Both yellow and orange filters will give you good results. Orange
filters will give your pictures an overall warmer cast. It's a
personal choice, so go out and shoot some pictures with both a yellow
and orange filter and see what you like.
When I first started shooting color infrared film (EIR) I was really
anal and thought you had to use a #12 Yellow filter as Kodak
recommends, so I went and paid a small fortune for a B+W "Orange" IR
filter. This filter is about is about twice as expensive as a typical
color filter and in my opinion isn't worth the additional costs.
There is nothing special about this filter that justifies a 2x price
increase!
In fact B+W's filter catalog shows that their deep yellow filter, 023,
has the same spectral transmission as their "orange" IR filter.Maybe
alll B+W did, was to rename one of their yellow filters as an "Orange
IR" filter and double the price? Good marketing trick. In addition,
someone at B+W must be color blind; the filter isn't orange, it's
yellow. To the naked eye it looks about the same color as a Tiffen #8
Yellow filter, which is about a third of the price.
For Color Infrared shots, go to WJ's homepage, the address is posted
after every message. Somewhere on this page is a list of IR sites and
several of them are in color.
