If the edge writing looks normal, but the images are light, you are
underexposed. If the edge writing is light, you are under developing. You
could also be underexposing, in that instance. Presuming that your developer
temp is the standard 20 deg C, the manufacturer recommends 11 minutes with
full strength D-76, I would think with a 1:1 dilution, your dev time should
be more in the 15 minute range, so you are likely a wee bit under
developing.
