Pinholes

To the group,
I am just catching up with mail and I see there was a running discussion
over the last few days, on Kodak as a responsible producer and the problems
with IR film.
I am very, very grateful to Kodak for making HSI; it is a unique product and
I have developed a taste for it.
However, Kodak has a manufacturing problem which shows up as tiny voids in
the negative's emulsion. KODAK HAS ADMITTED HAVING THE PROBLEM. Fine
pinholes in IR film do not result from sloppy darkroom practice. The voids
are built into the emulsion and are not a matter of "hearsay and individual
experiences."
Most of my shooting is on 4x5 HSI which shows pinholes on every sheet, but
some sheets are worse than others. From the discussions, most of the group
uses HIE 35mm and the problem seems less severe.
For the last year, I have been pressuring Kodak - sometimes with posts from
this group - for answers and a solution to the problem. People there are
sympathetic but noncommittal. As of 8/13/99, I was again told that there may
be a fix to the situation.
