Yahoo Web Ring License ... and upcoming articles

I've finally got around to reading the Yahoo small print since
concerns were raised about Yahoo taking a license on material in
'publicly accessible areas' - the extract from clause 8 is this one:
With respect to photos, graphics, audio or video you submit or make
available for inclusion on publicly accessible area of the Service
other than Yahoo! Clubs or Yahoo! Groups, the license to use,
distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly
display such Content on the Service solely for the purpose for which
such Content was submitted or made available. This license exists
only for as long as you elect to continue to include such Content on
the Service and will terminate at the time you remove or Yahoo
removes such Content from the Service.
But clause 8 then goes on to define publicly accessible areas and the
definition specifically EXCLUDES the following (extracted):
... areas off of the Yahoo network of properties such as portions of
World Wide Web sites that are accessible through Yahoo! Webring but
are not hosted or served by Yahoo.
Therefore I can see no attempt by Yahoo to take any rights in
anything on an external web site linked via a web ring unless the
site in question is part of Yahoo. As I said before, the licence is
to allow Yahoo to display anything you put on the Yahoo site itself.
Worries over guys!
Now some advance news. Some of us on the list have been approached
for images to go with an Infrared Photography article in the June
issue of Practical Photography. With any luck myself and Spearmint
(and some others) will get to strut our funky-IR stuff in the widest
circulated photo mag in the UK (71 thousand copies per issue it says
here). No promised though. We should know next week when they come
back and ask for repro-quality images. The RPS Journal is also
planning an article on IR. It was supposed to be in the current
edition but has obviously got pushed back.
Incidentally I have noticed that Simon Marsden and Michael Trevillion
are placing infrared B&W images on the covers of UK paperbacks in
significant numbers. The Inspector Morse books, for example, have
Michael's photos on them and Simon has shots on some other best
sellers over here. My congratulations to them both for this: but they
have probably cornered the market.
Spring is here and the time is right for getting out and basking in
that Wood effect!
