has a nice drawing of a zone plate:
The zone plate makes use of diffraction between a series of concentric
light and dark rings. It is related to the fresnel lens, and I think that
you can think of a pinhole as the degenerate case of a zone plate. Some

His images did look very low res. I was wondering if
it was from the source or just the small web jpegs.
