Real professional programmers can and do make a lot money, but it'd be
hard to find many who would state something like this:

"it costs any real programmer time and money to produce a program.
Those of us who are professional programmers, do this for a living...
it is a business (and a passion), but neither I, nor anyone else, can keep
up
quality work if we give it away for free in desperation just to get
published."

Many programmers do give their programs for free, with passion but never
desperation.

In the computer software business, the quality of commercial products is
raised,
not reduced because there are competing free products.
