I have done the same, with the addition also of a small nail inserted 
between the flash-gun's foot and the side of the camera's flash-mount 
because the width of the gun's foot was not quite as wide as the camera's 
contact. I carry a few nails (actually brads) in a small vial since I 
generally lose at least one per outing :-(
