People 3-d
Two quick comments on Mark Poole's interesting posting:
>I will use the Realist for people shots.
>My wife prefers the Realist shots, because I can get more impromptu
>images of people in action. She likes people.
I use twin SLRs too but love my Realist for this exactly purpose,
taking pictures of people, especially family, indoors, etc. Nothing
compares with a regular stereo camera for this purpose. And a good
picture of people can be priceless. If you look at what 3-d image
collectors are looking for, you will see that they are looking for
people. From the occassional 3-d slides of the 50s that I get, I
prefer the ones that show people, families inside houses. This
subject appreciates in value with time.
Even though it is easy to take informal pictures with a Realist, these
pictures do not usually project well. 3-D pictures of people for
projection or slide competitions is a tricky and challenging area.
>How do you get better shots?
To Mark's list of great ideas, I might add joining a stereo club (if
you are lucky to have one close), especially one that has slide
competitions. You learn first hand how are pictures judged and how
your pictures compare with everyone else's. Plus, you can talk to
their creators and get good and direct feedback. A postal circuit
(like the ones organized by SSA and PSA) is a good alternative except
the feedback comes much later. Perhaps when email becomes more
widespread, the time gap will be eliminated. Our expo's are leading
the way of the future!
