VM vs Realist

Assuming that people do view Realist slides more "seriously" than ViewMaster
pictures (and I think we're all accepting this assumption a little too easily) I
wonder if part of the cause might be that we regard ViewMaster as a "toy" and do
not take it as seriously as Realist? A Realist viewer is an adult looking device
and things seen therein are important. A ViewMaster viewer is a toy often in the
shape of Mickey Mouse's face, and things seen therein are trivial and childlike.
(Or at least so our inner voices try to tell us.)
