Yes, it is rather easy and inexpensive to process E-6. My wife does it all the time using a Jobo Typ 4080 processor and the chemical kits put out by Kodak and sold through B&H in NYC. You can also do it just with an ordinary film processor, and T control is not quite as critical as with color prints, in our experience. I still stick with Kodachrome because it still has about the finest grain around, and has the best archival shelf life of any slide film. 
Ektachrome, however, is said to stand up better to prolonged projection!
