Eric Drysdale concluded his newfound observations when projecting in 3-D woth
his recently acquired TDC 116.
ED>>I'm sure that the demands of projection will give a kick in ED>>the pants
to both my mounting and photographing skills. ED>>I'm looking forward to
getting better at this.
Eric and all interested...
In the world of 3-D recording and playback, most of us 3-D nuts do the
recording or photgraphic end. Most of us play back the recorded image by
getting them mounted, or having the mounting done by others, and then popping
them in a viewer.
A small group of us out there will go on to tackle the many problems that
3-D projection gives us......and Eric hats off to you for your sharing of the
new experience in projecting 3-D.
There are not many of us out there who project, which is due to several
obstacles, as I see it.
1) Lack of reasonably priced projectors: most new systems such as the
Brackett, RBT, or using twin 2 x 2, ring up a tab that stops many from
projecting. These new machines are either for the serious enthusiast...or
the proffessional.
Older systems can give us some nice results, but are limited by cumersome
mechanics, limited optics, minimal automation or none at all.
2) Mount-o-phobia: A common symptom amongst 3-D enthusiasts that are either
frustrated, afraid, or do not have the focus to learn how to mount well.
Thus in a projection situation....the viewing audience must be subjected to
the problems of those who do not have the experience of what tolerances are
required for projection.
The point I am trying to make is that whatever we can do as a community in
the hobby, to teach people proper mounting, is crucial to the perpetuation of
the medium. So all 3-D brothers and sisters (especially projectionists) who
can lend a hand showing how to mount....do so, it will come back to you as a
slide worth projecting for everyones enjoyment.
At our next meeting on February 25th...in Boston Dick Koolish be giving a
mounting seminar, which he shot close up with a slide bar....showing his
techniques. I will be projecting it, and showing the ramifications of
vertical, horizontal...and rotational problems that occur. All are welcome
to fly in from remote parts of the world for the meeting! Keep an eye out on
Photo 3-D for the time and location which will be posted soon. JON GOLDEN
