I decided to entertain some friends with my TDC 116 a couple of weeks ago. I
have the recommended 500w lamps. I also wanted to see how things projected
with the RBT mounts I was using. My slides are mounted black on front (for
viewing) and white on back (for projection).
When projecting I noticed that when the white side was placed toward the
light the image was reversed, so I made the foolish mistake of reversing the
slide. This means that the black side of the mount was now toward the
lamps...and the heat. Each slide up for 10 seconds or less, but that was too
long. I was also focused rather close, and consequently the opening between
the carrier and the lamp housing was quite small. When I examined the slides
later I found that some of the mounts had melted enough to be slightly
distorted. Fortunately no images were damaged, but I did learn a lesson or
two.
1. Do_not_place the black side of RBT mounts toward the light/heat source.
2. Do_not_focus too close or you might prevent proper circulation (and
cooling) around the slides.
To answer your original question, I don't think I'll be putting any 750w
lamps in my projector in the near future...I'm wondering if I could see
anything with 100w lamps 8-)
