cloudy lenses

Exactly ! In my case it doesn't *seem* to have much noticable effect on the
quality of the pictures. I think you're right : Probably the coating surface
has been slightly etched away. When I hold the camera to a bright
lightsource and look through the lenses a multitude very fine scratches are
can be observed.
(coating etched chemically and/or mechanically)
Since the image quality is not suffering seriously, It's not dramatic. But I
still would like to know if and how the problem can be solved.  Do
photoshops have something like a Dr. X's, miracle, "coating-reviver" fluid ?
;-) 
BTW What is coating made of ?
Say someone goes with a modern 50mm lens to a photoshop and says : Gee, I
damaged the coating trying to whipe it clean after my kids smeared jam on
it. (A friend of mine had his camera lens damaged by a snail' secretion).
What would be the answer ? Can't immagine these things don't happen all the
time.
