Re: cleaning stereo views

this is my first attempt at responding to anything on this list . hope I'm
sending it to the right address.

Just wanted to mention in regard to cleaning and restoring stereo views
that wiping the view very briefly with a cloth dampened with distilled water
and then follwing up quickly with a very gentle buff with a dry cloth really can
remove a suprising amount of accumulated dirt.
Sometimes I use a drop of photo-flow drying agent with the distilled
water . I figure it must be pretty neutral chemically since I have never had
any trouble with it harming negatives over the years.
the only attempts at *restoration* of faded views I have tried is
copying them on a Cannon Laser copier at places like Kinko's...adjusting for
contrast, hue and darkness . sometimes really like the results.
have also had pairs in which a corner of one phot o is torn or damaged and have
patched the area with a piece of photo copy from the other view ...seems to work
...doesn't confuse the eye if the patch is small.
I'm very curious to hear more about digital restoration .
