In fact, this is not rubbish! I've seen such a system
at IFA '95 in Berlin/Germany (Fair of Consumer Electronics).
Sanyo showed a large lenticular back projection TV set
which works without glasses. A similar technique can be
used for large lenticular LCD displays. They showed a
3D video of an aquarium in brilliant colors on a notebook
screen. Of course this also workes without glasses.

They also have a 2-D to 3-D converter which delays half
frames according to changes in the image. The representative
was not able to explain how exactly it works (perhaps it's
the company's secret). But it sounded like complicated
digital image processing. The system does not decompose
the image into moving objects and background, it only
delays one half frame depending on the distance of a
movement.
