The Geneva Star movement is for 35mm projectors and cameras. It transports
(starts and stops) the film and syncs the shutter. I have on of these
movements out of a camera and it's a facinating piece of machinery. You
crank it and it has two drive sprockets that transport the film. If looking
at a camera (or projector) that has a Geneva Star movement, you will only
see two drive sprockets rotate intermittently.
I believe it actually was patented in the 1890's.
hope this helps,
Tim Shih
