Dirk Djuga from Stuttgart reports on his pleasant experience with a new FED
camera. He says:

You have a good point here! I have been saying this for a long time: Twin
SLRs are not a replacement for a regular stereo camera. They are special
tools for special events. A good regular (made as such) stereo camera is
the all around tool to take everyday pictures, including people! Realism
is a big feature of stereo photography. Just say no to hyperstereo dwarfs!
(hypostereo giants too!)

The solution for me is to use stereo mounts made for this format like RBT,
Albion, EMDE, cardboard, etc. If you want to use regular 35 mm mounts then
you might be able to find the direc size in certain brands of more
expensive mounts. For example, Reel 3-D sells GEPE 24x28 mm mounts,
perfect for 7p slides. Also, if you cross two 24x32 mm mounts you get
Realist 5p format!

>PS: The FED cost 170 German marks, that's, lets see... $113 ? :o>

Wow!!! If prices continue dropping like this maybe even Dr. T will get a
FED one day.

When I asked a German connection about getting a Belplasca for a reasonable
price he said: "why bother with a Belplasca when you can get a FED for
much less???" I guess there is something about setting this darn aperture
and shutter speed manually that appeals to me!
