George,
I don't disagree with what you have said. In terms of 2D-photography vs
3D-photography as a hobby, both can be time and money consumers. No
problem.... one's enjoyment-time "allocation" is being spent on photography.
What prodded my previous posting was about how "people" demand quick easy
picture taking as well as quick easy processing (say, 1-hour places) and
are even willing to pay $$$ money for it. My point, perhaps not well stated,
was that most (not all) of those people who are doing that fast-easy
demanding aren't the hobbiests -- 2D or 3D. Hobbiests are willing to put
more time into things (not necessarily "waste" time, but will "spend" time).
In other words, the habits of the general public aren't necessarily applicable
to 2d hobbiests, because the photographic general public aren't hobbiests, they're
snapshooters who only want the resultant pictures.
So... I agree that the time that 3D hobbiests take probably isn't a major
problem for 2D hobbiests -- but it would be for the general photographic public
because they want to spend NO time at it. :-)

P.S. - Last night I took a couple rolls of pictures using my new FED
(with flash) at a wedding (of my wife's friend). They'll be our
present to them. The 'PRO' (w/medium format Mamiya, etc) did come
over and ask "what's that".... with kind of a frown when I told him
about how "really different" my pictures were going to be. :-) :-)
I know I like *my* wedding's stereo pictures more than the pro's and
mine were taken with just my beamsplitter that I loaned a friend.... so
it should get interesting (assuming mine turn out.... I'm sure his will).
