Camera Rochester 3-D Program
- From: P3D <BD3D@xxxxxxxxxx>
- Subject: Camera Rochester 3-D Program
- Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 19:41:17 -0500 (EST)
Hi all. I need to interject a serious piece amidst the holiday
humor. I'll keep it brief.
Those who may be in the Rochester NY area on January 20, 1997:
"The Monday January 20, 1997 meeting of Camera Rochester will
include a talk and slide show on stereoscopic (3-D) photography by
Bill Davis, a local 3-D enthusiast/amateur photographer. Bill will
give a short talk on 3-D photography including a discussion of
various methods of obtaining a three-dimensional image as well as a
demonstration of some of the various methods of viewing three
dimensional images. Bill will be projecting a short program of his
own 3-D slides. Polarized glasses will be available for the first
75 or so people (could there be that much interest in "that 3-D
stuff"?).
Bill will be followed by club member Richard Bent. Mr. Bent, a
retiree from Eastman Kodak's Research Labs, will present his (2-D)
North Pole Travelogue.
Local 3-D photographers are invited to attend and bring their
equipment and/or images for a show-and-tell later. If enough people
show interest, a 3-D night might be a regular part of their meeting
schedule.
Camera Rochester is a 25 year-old Photography club in Rochester NY.
Meetings start at 7:30 PM first and third Mondays of September
through June. Meetings are held at the Atonement Lutheran Church,
1900 Westfall Road (Between Winton and Monroe Aves.)."
David Boyer, past president and still ardent supporter of Camera
Rochester was introduced to 3-D by the NSA Convention this past
summer. He contacted me a few weeks prior to the conv. to ask
"What's this 3-D photography about?" I talked to him for about an
hour that night and he spent the next week researching and cramming
on stereo photography. He immediately fell in love with 3-D (sound
familiar?) and even arranged to be the guest on a local radio show
the first day of the Convention, talking about 3-D and the NSA, and
advertising the Convention. Pretty impressive for a recent
convert!
At the convention, he and his wife Cindy joined the NSA (I saw
Cindy helping Lois Waldsmith in the NSA booth that same day!) David
picked up a Jasper slide bar and View-Magic viewer to utilize his
current 35mm equipment, but since then he has found (and purchased)
a Wirgin and a Loreo. Poor guy's got the stereo bug...
Interesting to note that his wife enjoys 3-D photography as much as
he.
Anyway, I haven't been to a Camera Rochester meeting before , but
if the other members are anything at all like the Boyers, this club
will certainly live up to its reputation as the "Friendly Camera
Club".
Best regards,
Bill Davis
