Larry Berlin writes in the post about the 3D Lenticular Toy Story
>The pity is they had stereo 3D available...but I don't think you can
>present both motion and 3D in the same lenticular. If it is possible,
>I'd like to hear about it...
Yes they are possible and are being made commercially. Haven't seen to
many available to consumers, but they are available for promotional
purposes. I guess if someone has the money they can get them for consumers
also. I have an old one with a women portrait in 3D and she is winking.
Albeit it's very limited motion in that one. ;-) Kodak (and probably others)
have motion and 3D combined. I saw some excellent examples of this at
Rochester this past summer, at the Kodak booth. I also commented about
these lenticulars (last year) way back in Digest 1466. Here is a brief
excerpt from the brochure they were giving out.
KODAK Dynamic Imaging Products offers three primary visual effects:
Depth, Flip, and Motion. These basic effects can be combined in a number
of ways to create a product that best meets your communication needs.
They also have a brief mention about it at,
http://www.kodak.com/aboutKodak/pressReleases/pr950120-1.shtml
They mention, "The Kodak Depth Imaging system now has nine specific
products, ranging from pocket cards to visually exciting, point-of-purchase
, wall-sized displays," he says. He adds that the Kodak image technology
can show videolike motion sequences, images with amazing depth or displays
in which subjects change before viewers eyes". They are not kidding about
the amazing depth. Very sharp and good motion also.
Not much info on their web page, but their brochure mentions the different
types and combinations.
DEPTH-A dramatic three-dimensional effect that gives the viewer the
perception that an object(s) within the image is protruding from,
or receding into the scene.
FLIP- An eye-catching effect that enables distinctly differrent scenes to
"flip" one to another. The change in scenes takes place when a
viewer walks past the image (for larger size images), or tips their
wrist (for smaller, hand-held images).
MOTION-An impactful effect that actually shows an object or message in the
scene moving. Think of it as a hand-held video clip.
>From these three core effects, your Kodak Sales Representative can
recommend a product that will work best for your needs. The formal list of
products that display one, or a combination of the effects described above
include:
PRODUCT NAME CORE EFFECTS
------------ ------------
1)Full Depth DEPTH
2)Layered Depth DEPTH
3)2-D Flip FLIP
4)Full Depth with Flip DEPTH and FLIP
5)Layered Depth with Flip DEPTH and FLIP
6)Rotation MOTION (DEPTH can be added)
7)Animation MOTION
8)Virtual Hard Copy DEPTH
9)KODAMOTION Technology MOTION
BTW just before New Years, I spotted two full size lenticular mouse pads at
a office supply store. Both were comic book art, and one was of Batman and
the other of Superman. The Batman was in 3D and the Superman was flip
action. The cover claimed it to be motion, which it wasn't. They were
pretty well done. They were going for $10 Cdn and are made by

P.S. Yes thanks AleXA-nticular, we had nice holidays up here in Canada.
We didn't get very much snow yet this year. We gave it, as a present
to the west coast P3D members in the US/Canada. ;-)
