Your idea reminds me of something I briefly pursued in non-stereo
photography a while ago, which might be of interest: I always liked
the look of transparencies (projected or direct viewed) more than prints
because they have more dynamic range. Some informed people told
me that transparency material would be just as cheap as paper if it
were mass produced at the same level. It is also possible, although I
don't know how expensive it would be, to make a "composite" stereo
transparency with left and right elements having orthogonal
polarization.
Thus viewing with passive polarizing filters would provide superb
images,
viewable by groups of people at once, without turning off the room
lights.
Imagine: One could actually have a gallery of stereo masterpieces
that could be visited like any art gallery (except for the filters),
wander-
ing around and studying each image as long as you like.
Does anyone have any thoughts on (1) whether this would really be a
good thing (2) how to make a "composite" stereo transparency?
