Sorry -- didn't mean it that way. I, too, have heard that consumers 
consistently prefer brighter colors. That is what prompted Fuji's 
move to introduce brighter films. (Kodak, alas, has been less 
responsive to consumer trends.)  I did want to supplement the 
information by adding the bit about zoom lenses. 

I agree that increasing saturation must increase contrast somehow -- 
I've noticed the same thing when manipulating images on my computer 
screen. I haven't got a clue why ... the answer is probably full of 
gamma formulas, derivations, and other stuff full of (horrors!) 
_numbers!_
