Kodak Max?

Whilst buying some print film at Wal-Mart yesterday, I got a 
combo pack of 200 and it included a roll of MAX, which is advertised
as being "self-adjusting" on exposure speed. After hunting around
quite a bit, I found an ISO 800 rating. 

Does anyone know the spin on this? Does it have an extended enough
latitude (gamma?) that gross overexposures to gross underexposures
can be compensated in printing to the point that things look reasonable?

Or is it just based on the film cart electronic code or something?
