Just as slides can be mounted poorly or well, prints can easily suffer the
same fate. 

I agree that the monolithic prints can promote poor mounting habits. It is
very easy to just drop them into a Q-vu mount or even just pass them around
without the mount. For beginners, who just are not going to do any more,
this system can be ideal. If having Q-vues and monolithic prints is the
difference between someone exploring stereo photography and quiting because
it's too much trouble, then these are a good thing.

On the other hand, one does not HAVE to get monolithic prints. With
separate prints, it is very easy to compose within the window and the Q-vu
frame, and it's a much less persnickety process than front mounting requires. 

Just as with slides, there are many ways to mount - both well and poorly.
It's the care you take that counts.
