Another mounting question

With all the discussion of stereo slide mounting lately, it seems like
an opportune time for me to ask my mounting question (a "mounting"
question?)

I have been involved in stereo for about 1 year now, and have used the
cardboard heatseal mounts from the start. Since this is the only mount
I have used, I don't have anything to compare it to. I don't find them
difficult to use at all. I borrowed a Monokote heat sealing iron from
my RC airplane hobby.. just the right side for sealing the foldovers.
The slides have a nice professional finished appearance and generally
look fine through my Red Button viewer. When projected through my
Compco Triad projector, they look "OK". Certainly not as impressive as
what I have seen at the Chicago Stereo Society meeting I attended. The
vertical alignment is excellant, making for strain-free viewing, and I
agree with what was said about the inability to adjust the stereo window
(horizontal alignment).

So my question is, what will I gain by becoming proficient with another
mounting system that allows me control over the window. Will my
projected slides look better? Generally speaking, would one be moving
the film chips farther apart for projection, or does it depend on the
scene?

All help and information always appreciated.

Mike
