Sorry for the confusion...
The answer to your question can be found in old stereo pairs, shot on
asa 10 Kodachrome. The best-case "sunny 16" scenareo meant shooting
these cameras at f/6.3 @ 1/50th, cloudy conditions meant shooting wide
open. Anyone who collects or has seen classic stereo slides can attest
to the fact that done well they are quite sharp/contrasty at these
apertures, especially in the center.
If you're camera isn't giving you acceptable results at wide apertures
it is in all likelihood out of alignment...
