P3D RE: EVERYTHING!
Okay. Time to comment on all that's been said, recently:
RE: Stereo World editing:
I love SW, just the way it is, and most "Shooter" articles would
interest
me less than the "Historical" stuff. Dr. T said something about how he'd
like to see more pictures by living people than dead ones. Geeze. Kinda
crude, but definitely to the point. And I AGREE! One thing I'VE wanted to
see, was a monthly section (3-4 pages) of current stereophotographs simply
printed there for our ocular pleasure. A little bit of text could explain
how the shots were done. Of course, I probably wouldn't read the text...
but
I would LOVE looking at the pictures.
(I can see my wife complaining about the time I waste looking at my Stereo
World. I can see myself answering her, "But honey, I don't look at the
pictures, I just get Stereo World for the articles!)
RE: the cost of Dan's CD
I have a Mac without a CD-ROM drive, and am buying the CD. I hope to have
a new computer soon, but who knows what a collector, like me, would even use
the CD for. (To just look at the pictures, probably) I don't care. I'm a
collector, and I don't have anything like that in my collection. So I want
one. $30 isn't easy for me, since I'll owe so much for the new computer I
have to buy to play it on! Besides, my second child is due in less than 3
weeks.
Most of my friends are computer geeks (umm... afficiandos) and maybe
NOW, after I show them my nifty CD, they'll appreciate 3-D stuff. I could
never interest them in it before. Oh sure... they thought that individual
images looked real cool, but.... well.... read on...
RE: People who appreciate 3-D photos but don't want to get into
stereophotography as a hobby:
I can speak for those people, in a way. I'm sort of in between. I
collect stereophotography because I am interested in the history of
photography, in gerneral, and I love looking at beautiful pictures. The
realism of 3-D is awsome. It's really that simple.
After joining NSA, I discovered how many other forms of 3-D photography
existed! The collector, in me, wants examples of each format. A little bit
of everything! Naturally, I had to try it out for myself. I was pretty
impressed with my first Realist slides, but not excited enough to go out and
take hundreds of rolls of film, each year. It's not worth the hassle (to
me).
I got much more of a kick out of finding a Realist Red Button viewer for
$60 before I ever knew what a Realist was! (The camera came later). I love
it when I find something that I'm sure is worth more than I'm paying for it!
My friends think that some of my collection is cool. They also think I'm
kinda nuts. The actual images DO really impress them. But that doesn't
mean
they're gonna go out and try it themselves. It's not the difficulty factor,
involved, it's just that they probably won't get the "kick" out of it, that
others do. These guys will go out and spend hundereds of dollars on fantasy
role playing games and collectible cards games. And they go to the gaming
conventions. I like playing these games, but, I don't spend a week's pay
going to a convention in Milwakee, in the horrendous heat of summer, only to
have to fight some sweaty weirdo that hasn't taken a bath in a week, to get
the last copy of an overpiced roleplaying supplement. Sometimes, I think
that THEY'RE crazy!!
I thought that I might get into doing my own 3-D photography. I didn't.
Hey. Maybe my friends just know themselves better. To each... his own.
RE: CD Rom of Stereo World.
As long as the text is readable, I'd prefer one or two CDs of all back
issues, and then one more CD issued, each year or two. I'd probably rarely
use it, but, well... it's not like I haven't said it before............
but....... I'm a collector.
