I think the fact that the cuts are not even is pretty good evidence that
stereo mounting is not automated. I recall some discussion of this in an
old issue of The 3D News (by Piper?), the revelation was that the film was
cut with scissors and mounted by hand. One should look at these services as
a convenience, not too much should be expected. At least it allows one to
spend scarce time remounting only your best slides.
