There are a few problems with this logic. First, has the club tried the
other approach ("do not touch the controls") to see if it works or not?<
Well, sure we have! SCSC has been around a long time! =) And as I noted,
we project the 2x2 slides without any adjustment, and have no complaints
about that! But I have tried covert experiments leaving the horizontals on
our TDC alone, and I always get cries to minimize the ghosts... Go figure!
:-\ I confess I am spineless enough to buckle under mob pressure. ;)

There is only one way to do it: Don't touch these controls!<
George, I hope it isn't too much of a surprise to hear I agree with you
here too. If it were solely up to me, we would only adjust for focus, maybe
for verticals in extreme cases. In defense of our club, I can only repeat
that the majority feels this helps encourage entries. Perhaps the club is
wrong, but an axiom of democracy is that reasonable people can and will
disagree. So we vote and compromise. Maybe it's time we reconsidered the
question...

By the way, when you first set up your projector for competition, whose
slide do use to determine the horizontal and vertical adjustments, and why
that particular person's? Or is there an alignment slide for realist
mounts?<
I know there have already been good replies to this. At SCSC, we use stereo
alignment slides that members have made for us. The slides have hash marks
to align and focus. It helps to have stereoscopically offset LEFT and RIGHT
labels. This kind of slide is pretty easy to make in the computer,
assuming you have a local service that will make slides from digital files.
There are focus and alignment 2x2 slides commercially available for
multimedia purposes, that easily adapt to stereo. We also have club logo
slides we use to introduce and close the program. Why we bother to set up
the projector, when we just throw the lenses around anyway, is another
issue. ;)
