P3D Slide Scanners

Hello (esp to Dr. T)
This is my first posting on P3D and I hope I am doing it correctly. I
am sure that one of the "old timers" will let me know if I am violating any
netiquite rules.

I just had to share some news about slide scanners in response to the
posting by Mark Sheilds the digest #2894 (8/12/98). I have been eyeing the
HP PhotoSmart Scanner which everyone (MicroCenter, CompUSA, Cambridge
Camera) is selling for $399. It is rated @2400dpi resolution, optical
density of 3.0, color depth of 10-bit per channel (see scan comparison
chart in October issue of PC Photo Magazine). Yesterday I took one of my
"prize winning" Realist slides to Microcenter and a salesman scanned it for
me. I was very pleased with the results(you have to put the mount in
twice, once for the left chip and once for the right chip). I am certain
scanning the uncut film strip would be even easier. But the good news that
I want to share is that the same issue of PC PHOTO Magazine has a $100
rebate card facing page 38!!!! I plan to get my scanner on Saturday!
Regards,
Harold Kaiman
