Sorry for the confusion. What Zak installed was a PC connector on the
lower right corner of the lens board as you look at the front of the
camera (beside one of the rangefinder windows). The hot shoe is not
involved at all. I chose this route since he already had the camera
for refurbing and I thought it was a more elegant long term solution
to flash syncing than using an adaptor. It would be, too, if it
worked. ;-)

That's what I thought, at first, but that same flash will fire without
problem when plugged into my OM-2 or my Kodak Stereo using the same PC
cord. Plus, my other flash fires without problem when plugged into the
Realist.

I don't have a meter at home, right now, but since the Toshiba flash
fires when plugged into anything but my Realist I don't think the PC
cord is bad, and since the Realist will fire my other flash, it seems
like the connector that Zak installed is not defective. That's the
problem, everything seems to work except when the flash that I bought
for the Realist is plugged into the Realist. :(
