Michael Georgoff asks in resonse to Bob Howard's post:

Yes both the Loreo and Argus have two lenses. The film transport
and lenses are configured in a unique way so that the images are
transposed to the proper orientation for viewing after the film is
developed. This isn't needed with beamsplitters that are attached
to single lens cameras.
This begs the question, "Why did they (Loreo/Argus) not just then
go with a single lens camera?" I can only speculate that it would
have been harder for the smaller single lens on the Loreo/Argus to
intercept the two images from the inside two mirrors. Not that it
can't be done however since Fuji had such a stereo-adaptor for a
single-use (and single lens) camera awhile back.
This raises another question, as to why the need for the mirrors
if the Loreo/Argus has two lenses to begin with. The lenses on the
Loreo/Argus have to be close together to transpose the images. It
would have been very difficult to transpose the images if the two
lenses were further apart, therefore the mirrors serve to increase
the stereo-base.
