P3D Another Nimslo Question

The Reel 3-D guide to Nimslo refers to a modification that allows double
exposure, and mentions designing seperate lense caps, thus 2 different
pairs can be taken before advancing the film. The book refers to a cut
1/4" by 3/4" on the lower left ( facing camera) corner of the plastic
lense surround. Is this cut made under the beveled edge of the surround
starting from the corner? And why such a large cut, is the camera
disassembled first? What tool woud be used to make such a cut? ( the
book is very vague) Also, has anyone found a readily available item that
fits over each lense, or do you use black tape? Thanks for the help.
