P3D Re: 2x2x2 stereo format - more info
I am forwarding the following reply...
Dear George,
Thanks for the forward. I'm happy to comment, and feel free to edit and
forward it to the Photo 3-D Group.
Yes, we used to sell a "Full Frame 3-D" mount, Stock No. 4100 at $12.95 for 50
pieces". The outer dimensions were 2" x 4.5", with two "full frame"
horizontal apertures, which were actually about 23mm high by 33mm wide. These
were made by Pegco, with the same type of slip-in pockets that they use for
their single 2x2 mounts. Yes, they would fit in the 2" channel of the TDC 116
(old style carrier). However, they did not allow for very precision mounting.
They would also fit in the Radex binocularscope, or even in the Franka 3-D
slide viewer if you trimmed about 1/16" off of one edge.
If Alan Lewis wants to order 10,000 of these (the minimum production run --
and I would have to double check this because pegco is under new ownership)
we'd be happy to arrange for it. We stopped because our last batch took 5
years to sell, 50 at a time. As mentioned above, the RBT 41x101 mount with 23
x 33 apertures will show the same image size, allows for precision mounting,
and will fit in many more viewers (with aperture modification) and in the
FRONT channel of the TDC 116 -- and will show the full 33mm wide image.
My own opinion is that a larger percentage of the 2x2x2 crowd want to take
advantage of Wess or Gepe mounts, and twin Ektagraphic projectors, and reeely
step into the 20th (soon to be 21st) century. For those who want a single full
frame stereomount the RBT is a superior answer to the problem.
I hope that sheds some light on the old mounts, for what my 2 cents is worth.
Nice to hear from you, and looking forward to seeing you all in Green Bay
