I started shooting stereo in 1971 with a Realist that I picked up in New
England while touring with the U.S. Army Field Band. A couple of years
later I bought a new Nikon Ftn with 3 lenses - 28mm, 50mm, and 70-210mm
zoom. I loved the versatility of the Nikon, especially the TTL metering and
the framing ease of the zoom lens. I sold my Realist in 1975.

I got back into stereo in 1994, having bought a 2.8 Realist. I wanted a
wider format to add to the possibilities, so I picked up an Olympus XA-2
twin rig from Rocky Mountain Memories at the Richmond NSA convention. I do
all right with both cameras, but I am not as happy with either of them as I
am with my Nikon (yeah, still using the same Ftn, 26 years later).

I had the good fortune to attend the Stereoscopic Society convention in
England in 1996 and saw a couple of twin rigs people had there. Many of
them seemed to be two SLR cameras on a bar with coupled focus, aperture and
zoom rings. They looked to be coupled with a simple clamp (like an auto
radiator hose clamp) with a rod between the two. This would seem to be a
good unit for someone like me who is interested in the SLR features but
can't afford an RBT. I wasn't looking for a twin rig at the time, so I
didn't take note of the details of the setups. I would like to hear from
those of you who are using twin rigs as to what you like/dislike about your
setup and what you would recommend. My desires are:

1. TTL metering and framing.

2. Either interchangeable lenses or zoom capability from W/A (35mm would be
enough) to telephoto (at least 105 with 180 preferable).

3. Light weight (adding a second Ftn would require a membership at the local
gym to be able to lift it).

4. Low cost (I'd like to stay around $500-$700 if possible - used equipment
would be fine).

What do you use and how do you like it?

Thanks in advance...
