above your response.

Four sentences later you say:

I certainly understand the purpose and operation of the co-incident image 
rangefinder. As I understand the Realist, as you turn the focus wheel, you 
are not only moving the rangefinder's optical components, you are moving the 
film plane to ensure correct/critical focus.  Am I mistaken here?  Is the 
Realist rangefinder not coupled to the film plane?

My point is/was: should a person desire to replace the vintage lenses with 
modern ones of a different focal length, you must either disregard the 
rangefinder, recalibrate it, or even remove it.
Alternately, you could convert the camera to scale focussing (like a Kodak 
Stero) by manually recalculating and relabeling the distance scale.
