P3D Surround

Here are the basic mixing mechanics to create surround using a 4 track
tape machine. Amplification could be provided by 2 stereo receivers. 4 (
or 5) speakers would be required and an optional subwoofer. After the
initial idea is recorded and mixed live through the speakers......it
would be necessary to create a new 4 track master by transferring the
initial 4 tracks to another 4 track machine as to adjust for
equalization and even volume levels. This way " live mixing" is
eliminated and the tape is allowed to play unattended. Each channel of
the stereo amplifiers would control the 4 speakers. The 2 amps simply
would be set for volume balance between L&R, and master volume levels
set with minimal fuss. The new master tape will be played back,
pre-mixed and there's nothing to do accept sit back and enjoy the show.
Surround can be created several ways including the use of a single
Pro-Logic receiver, and DSP's or a stereo receiver and a mono amp, or 5
seperate amps etc. :-) So many possibilities!! Mark
