I thought the Pixar machine was Reyes. It was an acronym. It started
something like Renders Every[thing|where]. Maybe that was the
software that predated Render Man. My memory isn't as good as it used
to be.
John Lassiter joined Pixar after leaving Disney. Like Tim Burton he
wasn't allowed to do what he wanted while at Disney. Given the
timeline on Pixar's webpage I'm guessing it had to be before Jobs
purchased the company in 1986. Luxo Jr. got an Oscar nomination that
year and it was a Lassiter short.
