I have also used the Olympus cable release on my twin Pentax K1000 over the
past three years.  One of the cables has a barrel adjuster, for adjusting
sync.  When I first started using these with daylight, I was very lucky
(apparently).  After adjusting the sync "by eye" (camera backs open, firing
and adjusting cable), on my first couple of rolls sync was outstanding.  I
was capturing water droplets in mid-air, with my boy in the splash tub
outside.  One thing that has helped, as indicated by Grant, is that I've
always had the release plunger mounted to the tripod, so that its position
does not shift at all.

SInce then, performance in natural light has been more varied, though still
quite good.  I continued to use the set-up for natural light until very
recently (now I have a pair of Ricoh XR-10Ms set up for natural light and
flash photography).
