Not to beat this into the ground, but John Lasseter was most definitely
there at Lucasfilm Ltd before it became Pixar and was bought by Jobs.
He animated a short for them in 1984 called The Adventures of Andre and
Wally B.(mostly to show off what could be done) and in 1985 animated the
stained glass knight sequence in Young Sherlock Holmes.
If Lucas had realized that this was the way most special effects would be
done in the future he probably wouldn't have sold.

Before that, while at Disney Lasseter worked on an amazing test segment from
Where the Wild Things Are with Glen Keane that had hand drawn character
animation and a computer generated backgrounds. Disney didn't see a much use
for it.
