In New Digest #35, Paul Talbot writes, in part:

<< I've never seen black masking tape, however.
 Where did you get it?
  >>

Scotch 235. Available in a variety of widths.
An opaque black paper tape, used in sealing long roll magazines, quickie
fixes to bellows, any place you need to quickly and reliably light proof
something. As a quick fix to a faulty camera back it should do well, but in
the long run a proper repair would be better.

ps. a quick search yeilded the following:

         Scotch 235 Photographic Tape
Black, crepe paper, pressure-sensitive tape that is designed for use
in commercial as well as private photography. It can be used for
making negatives, positives, and transparencies. Conformable,
opaque, and it has low light reflectance. 3" core.
          1/2"x60 yds 1"x60 yds
