Yes, I was assuming no modifications, and was suggesting that even an
unmodified Red Button could possibly handle 7p vertically pretty well. In
fact, if I take a 7p Spicer mount and put it in the Red Button vertically,
it seems to just fill the field of view (23 mm x 28 mm). It needs to be held
a little higher in the viewer than the position the 6mm edge would give you
automatically; about 7mm looks like it would be right for the "bottom" edge
of the new mount.

I just meant that the top margin of the slide might be too thin with "full
frame", and it might work better/ be sturdier if it were a little taller. It
doesn't seem that it would be a problem if the mount were a little taller;
it would not need to be as tall as the old Radexes (about 71 mm) but just a
little extra height might be OK, except perhaps for competitions.
I am not sure how we are defining "full frame"; I realize the the neg itself
is probably 24 x 36; full frame single mounts are usually 23 x 34mm? (The
GEPE I have here that I measured was this size.) The 8p spicers have an
aperture of 23 x 31.5mm. The 7p's appear to be 23x 28. In a vertical format,
the 7mm on the bottom plus *34 mm* aperture height would use up all of the
41 mm mount height unless you added a little for the top margin. I would
personally might be interested in trying a 28 mm aperture height (7p
vertical) ; others might want closer to full frame (for projection with a
TDC 116 or use in a modified viewer) if they don't mind an oversized mount.
Admittedly, many people probably do crop their full frame shots down to 31.5
in horizontal format anyway but part of this is for adjusting the window
which wouldn't apply here on the vertical dimension.
Speaking of this, would a narrower aperture (e.g 21 mm or so ) be better
than 23mm for the width, both for allowing window adjustments (since many
portrait subjects may be fairly close up) and to improve the height to width
ratio? -Linda
