Quite a few interesting comments on this thread...

Not many people realize how powerful depth cue
motion parallax is.  One example is looking out
of the plane.  The clouds and the ground are 
moving nicely and smoothly and the depth sensation
is very powerful.  This has two results:  

Those who take 2d snapshots out of the window are 
usually disappointed that the results are nothing like what
they felt when they were there.  

When I show my wife (who never gets terribly excited
about stereo pictures, even though she is not stereo
blind) hyperstereos from an airplane window, her
reaction is "so what?"   The reason for this is that
she is carrying a strong depth sensation from looking
out of the window so what I am showing is not
news to her.
