I have used the standard 2x2 slide mount press sold by the Erie Slide Club.  
It takes two passes to get a single mount, it requires a little care in 
positioning, but it's quick once you get the hang of it.   It gets the middle 
of the mount very well.

Ditto on working with scrap chips first!
