-Hello, I'm Elena, a photographer in philadelphia and a stereo
enthusiasist.
I must admit that I've been lurking for about 3-4 months now, but
never felt compelled to join until the discussion about digital began.
IMHO, digital imaging is simply a medium , like stereo, 35mm, 2.25,
4x5 etc., not an end to a medium.
Photography did not displace/replace painting or drawing.! TV did not
replace movies, nor has the web replaced newspapers & magazines. In
fact, there are several mags about the web and digital imaging
published monthly using photographers who shoot film!, not digital!

Secondly, consider the movie industry... Most films are shot on 35mm
negative stock and then transferred to 35mm print film (this is why
your slides from negs look soo good). As it has already been noted,
if
kodak & fuji & ilford are making film for the movie houses($$$$$),
they'll be making multi format film for you and me.

When digital imaging can truely compete with film, and meet the
standards of the big movie houses, that's when we should worry. As
long as Disney and Dreamworks etc. want film, you and I will have
film
too...just maybe not as many choices.
Thanks for your
