Just as an FYI, movie houses are considering both digital recording and
distribution of movies. There is a "chip" manufactured by Texas
Instruments which is a series of "digital mirrors". These mirrors can
be turned "on" or "off" to reflect light through a lens and onto a
screen.
We have a movie theater here in Plano Texas that uses this technology to
project digital movies and the results are quite extraordinary. Toy
Story 2 was shown digitally and the color and vibrance was great.
Once this technology is installed in more theaters, distribution of
movies to the theaters will be done, not by delivering film reels but by
downloading across a network to the theater.
While I believe that film will be around for my lifetime, I'm not so
sure about my children's lifetime. Of course, I always thought we'd be
able to buy a record at a record store.
Now, if I had the time, I'd love to tear apart a couple cheapie digital
cameras and combine them so I could create stereo pairs digitally.
Maybe in a few months :-) :-)
Regards,
Ron
