That's the hard way! 
 Just buy a double pole breaker to fit your panel, it clamps over both
buss bars supplying balanced 220. Now run two wires of the same color
(black/black for example) plus one green or bare wire to a 220v 20a
outlet, hook it all up, throw the breaker on and enjoy the show.
