Indeed, moreover, when you click there on a "Re:" (reply)
message you see a blue double "UP" arrow next to it,
which will bring you to the _first_ message of the thread,
and there all replies to it are listed, if only replies 
keep the same subject and don't use meaningless subjects
as "Re: [photo-3d] Digest Number XXX". (Indeed Olivier,
I mean you :-).)

But of course the meter eventually ticks on in this 
on-line search. The cheapest way is just only connecting 
to download the Digest(s). And in a week there are mostly
about 10 digests amounting only about 250 kB in total.
Keeping 4 weeks of Digests takes less space than one 
1.4 MB floppy, and there are many easy way to search these.
There is no need for long quotes. 

So indeed, please trim quotes and use logical subjects.
