I am sorry but I respectfully disagree. The question of
who can see it and under what circumstances is a very valid
question.
I have been teaching about the stereo window for years.
And I am convinced that some people have considerable
difficulty in seeing it (they understand very well what
it is and how it is manipulated, only they do not always
see it clearly) and others see it some time and do not
see it another time.
My good friend Dennis Petti... He know verys well the what
and how. And yet from time to time he comes up with clear
window violations and he says "but it looked good in the
viewer..."
My partner and friend for many years, Jim Motley, entered
three slides with terrible window violation... "But they
looked good in the viewer".
To see the stereo window you need to clearly observe the
right and left edges of the pair. Some people who wear
glasses have difficulty in seeing the edges of the slides
in a hand-viewer. These people usually see the window
much clearly in projection but because they check their
mounting with a viewer, they have a hard time.
So, Allan, here is your challenge: If you think that
learning the stereo window is a matter of being taught
properly, I challenge you to teach the stereo window
to Bob Leonard. With all due respect for Bob, his
window position appears to be a random function. You
would expect that with all these years of experience
(Bob just finished a long term as a Chairman of PSA's
stereo division) he could do better. So, Allan, if
you can teach him the stereo window I will have even
more respect for your skills than I have now! :)
